Meet Jerry
Jerry was born and raised in a small town in rural Oklahoma. He grew up in a working class family where he learned the importance of FAMILY, COMMUNITY, and HARD WORK. While taking concurrent classes at his local community college, he had an American Government professor who inspired him to follow his passion for politics. He went on to attend Oklahoma State University where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science. As a first generation student, he knows first hand how important the guidance and support of dedicated advisors was to his success.
After graduation, Jerry stayed at his alma mater to serve as an academic advisor. Eventually, he wanted to truly put his education to use by switching career paths to local government. That is when he got an opportunity that changed his life. He was offered a job with the Greeley City Clerk’s Office coordinating the City’s 23 volunteer Boards and Commissions and supporting City Council. After nearly 4 years in this incredibly rewarding role, he felt the pull back to higher education. So, for the past 4 years, he has supported the Board of Trustees at Aims Community College as their Board Liaison.
As should be clear by his professional career, Jerry has a passion for service. And that passion extends into his personal life as well. He served on Greeley’s Human Relations Commission for 2 years, 1 year as Chair. He also served for 1 year on the Executive Board of the Latino Coalition of Weld County as their Treasurer. He currently serves on the Civic Engagement Council at Aims which works to get students involved in their communities both civically and through community service.
For almost a decade Jerry has called Greeley home. Like many folks, he did not plan on staying here long. But he fell in love with the richness and diversity of this community; put down roots here; and cannot imagine living anywhere else. Now he wants the honor and privilege of serving the people of this community and providing them the leadership in Denver they deserve. The leadership of someone who has worked their whole career in public service, not a career politician. The leadership of someone who knows how to balance a budget and knows what it means to live paycheck to paycheck. And the leadership of someone who will fight for everyone in this community, not just the select few.
